Last updated at: 2022-10-01

Work hard, play hard. Some would say it’s not just a motto, it’s a way of life.

If you’re a real go-getter like us and thrive on getting your next shot of adrenaline we’ve got you covered.

We’ve picked the very best quick adventures you can take around Australia and New Zealand. So, set aside a weekend (or two), it’s time for a little adventure-fix…

Go snorkelling in the Great Barrier Reef, QLD
If you’re all for an ocean adventure, the Great Barrier Reef is calling you.

One of Mother Nature’s most impressive masterpieces, The Great Barrier Reef is the world’s largest coral reef system with over 2900 individual reefs and 900 islands to explore. Named one of the seven wonders of the natural worlds and a world heritage site – it can even be seen from outer space!

Not that you need any more convincing but it’s your chance to get up close and personal with a wonderful array of marine life. You’ll see turtles, whales, dolphins, sharks and hundreds of species of fish – need we say more?

Most snorkel or scuba diving tours are boat-based professional tours. Popular starting points for reef exploration are Cairns, Port Douglas, Cape Tribulation and Townsville.

Enjoy the outdoors and go camping in the Snowy Mountains, NSW
The Snowy Mountains are only for winter, right? Wrong. While known for the winter ski fields, the Snowy Mountains region is much more than just Thredbo. Come summertime, there’s loads to do including hiking, cave tours, bush walking, climbing, mountain bike riding, and of course, camping.

We suggest you grab your mates and go for a short road trip around the Australia Alps and explore the wilderness. The national park is home to the high mountain and highest campground in mainland Australia. Take in the breath-taking views and breathe in that fresh alpine air. You might spot the occasional sugar glider, wombat or roo while you’re at it.

Take a dip in the fresh waterholes at Litchfield National Park, NT

Natural beauty more your territory? Litchfield National Park is a great day trip option just over an hour from the Northern Territory’s capital, Darwin.

With tropical rain forest, bush walks, cascading waterfalls, clear swimming holes, four-wheel driving and plenty of wildlife – it’s the perfect place for an all Aussie adventure.

Popular spots include Florence Falls, Buley Rockhole, Wangi Falls and Tjaynera Falls.

Take a leap and go bungee jump in Queenstown, NZ
New Zealand is a country known for its natural beauty and an endless supply of adventure. But if you want to get your adrenaline pumping, South Island’s Queenstown is the only place to be – it’s the home of the world’s first bungee jump.

There are three bungee jumps – the Kawarau Bridge jump, The Nevis and The Ledge. They’re not for the faint-hearted and they’re an experience you’ll never forget.

Queenstown boasts a bunch of other adventure activities, so make the most of your surroundings and enjoy skydiving, white water rafting, zip lining and hiking.

Go four-wheel driving through High Country, VIC
Rugged mountains, steep climbs and rough ledges, the Victorian High Country is one of the best four-wheel driving spots this country has to offer.

With thousands of kilometres of easy to extremely difficult four-wheel driving tracks, this is the perfect place to take your mates, head out for the weekend and discover the Alpine back-roads at your own pace. Enjoy the unsealed roads, incredible countryside views, idyllic campsites and quaint country towns. Get some scenic snaps for the ‘gram while you’re at it.
