The Best Adventure Locations in Your Region

Last updated at: 2022-07-31

From four-wheel driving to camping under the stars, we’re always down for an adventure! Whether it’s secret swimming holes or secluded walking tracks, some adventure locations are more popular than others.

So, where is the best adventure location in your region? Read on to find out!

Australia

Tasmania

If you’re looking for adventure and beautiful scenery, Tasmania is packed full of it! One unforgettable experience that’s definitely worth it for new and experienced adventurers is a trip aboard Pennicott Wilderness Journeys. This Tasmanian Seafood Seduction tour voyages down the Derwent River.

Your guide will talk you through the stunning scenery, exotic wildlife and deserted beaches before literally jumping into the ocean with a snorkel to catch some of the best seafood in the world. This is one you won’t want to miss!

Victoria

Do you feel at home on the back of a bike? For adrenaline junkies, you can’t go past mountain bike riding on one of the ‘Dirty Dozen’ trails in Victorian High Country. Whether you’re cycling Falls Creek for the incredible vistas, hitting single tracks in Bright or shredding the parks around Mount Beauty, there’s an Alpine trail for every experience level!

New South Wales

Are you after an experience where you (literally) live life on the edge? Look no further than an unforgettable cliffnic! For a day out like no other, Outdoor Raw gives those brave enough the opportunity to enjoy a picnic while suspended on the side of a cliff. Head to remote locations, feast on premium local produce and listen to some pumping tunes – all with the most amazing scenery right in front of you.

ACT

Corin Forest is the most accessible and affordable Alpine resort in Australia and the closest snowfields to both Sydney and Canberra. During winter, snow bunnies can enjoy snow sports like skiing and snowboarding. In the warmer months, Corin Forest is a haven for biking, camping and a fun alpine slide down the mountain.

Queensland

For those who love cruising by car, make sure you go four-wheel driving through Magnetic Island. While the island itself isn’t very big, there are plenty of beaches and bays to explore, as well as beautiful scenery and wildlife.

Magnetic Island is only 11kms at its widest and sits within the World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. If you’re lucky, you may also spot a koala or two!

Northern Territory

One of the scariest things (in our opinion) that you can do in Australia – more specifically, the Northern Territory – is swimming with crocodiles. Head down to Crocosaurus Cove, located in the heart of Darwin City. Crocosaurus Cove is home to the world’s largest display of Australian reptiles, including the iconic saltwater crocodile.

From reptile rooms to crocodile feeding shows, there’s something for everyone here. But for those who want that little bit extra, you can head into the Cage of Death – Australia’s only crocodile dive – where you truly immerse yourself in the environment of Australia’s most mesmerising apex predator, the saltwater crocodile. Adrenaline junkies can spend 15 minutes getting up close and personal with these terrifying beasts. One to check out the next time you’re seeking your next thrill.

Western Australia

Western Australia is known for its stunning scenery and beautiful beaches. For adventure junkies, one of the best experiences is canyoning through Hancock Gorge. Labelled as one of the most spectacular natural features in Western Australia, descending into the gorge is often referred to as a ‘journey to the centre of the earth’.

This gorge can be explored solo but is only recommended for the most experienced explorers. On this canyoning trip, adventurers will abseil, jump, slide, swim, and tube through sections of the gorge that aren’t accessible by foot. This canyoning adventure is one you’ll want to add to your bucket list!

South Australia

For those who aren’t claustrophobic, an adventure caving trip through South Australia’s Naracoorte Caves is a must! With varying levels of skill required, this experience sees you follow an experienced guide through caves that preserve the most complete fossil record, including Australia’s megafauna species.

Strict safety precautions are in place, and you’ll be trained in safe caving techniques before you set out. You’ll be given helmets, headlights, overalls and knee pads to optimise your experience. For more experienced cavers, the Starburst Chamber or Fox Cave are good ones to give a shot.

New Zealand

North Island

Without a doubt, one of the best adventures you’ll experience in New Zealand’s North Island is rafting in Rotorua. The experienced team at Kaitiaki Adventures take you down a level five rafting trail on the Kaituna River – the highest grade available to the public in the world! During the tour, your guide will take you down a 7-metre waterfall – the highest commercially rafted waterfall in the world!

The rest of the tour features more thrilling rapids and waterfalls, as well as stunning scenery, with your guide talking you through the bush surrounding you. There is more than one tour you can do, so choose a level that suits you.

South Island

Thrill-seekers in New Zealand’s South Island don’t need to look any further than Queenstown when searching for adventure. Known as the adventure capital of the world, Queenstown has just about everything for hardcore adrenaline junkies, right down to those only wanting a mild adventure.

Bungy jumping, jet boating, quad biking, white water rafting, river surfing, sky diving and canyon swings are all activities avid adventurers can experience. Jump off the ledge of the highest Bungy in the Southern Hemisphere (the 134-metre Nevis Bungy Jump) while taking in the amazing Queenstown scenery, or choose to go down backwards, upside-down or other crazy ways on the Nevis Swing, which completes a 300-metre arc (solo or tandem).

There are so many places around the world for thrill-seekers to get their hit of adrenaline, but some of the best adventure locations are right on our doorsteps.
